My trip to Thirunavaya

I reached Thirunavaya at about 0830. The rains were there till 0730 and I could do the Sraddham without rains. When I left Thirunavaya it was not raining. The Nila has only some water, but the priest told me that after Makiryam Njattuvela is over, after 14 days, the water level will rise 12 steps high !

Below is a photo of the Ponnani Estuary, where the Ganges of Kerala, the Bharatha Puzha, flows into the Arabian Sea !

Bali Tourism !

One of the temples in Bali.

92% Bali is Hindu and Bali is home to more than thousand temples.  People here practise Balinese Hinduism. With a population of more than 3 million, Bali is home to Indonesia's Hindu minority. She is the largest tourist destination of Indonesia. She is renowned for her well developed arts, including dance traditional and modern, painting, leather, sculpture, music and metal working.

80% of Bali's economy depend on Tourism. Tourism is now the single largest industry and Bali is one of Indonesia's rich regions. An offshoot of tourism is the burgeoning real estate industry. Five stars hotels are under development in the Bukit peninsula. Foreign and domestic investment in other areas also continues to grow.

Bali gets 2.5 million FTA or tourist arrivals. India gets only 6 million ! We have to step up Marketing. Indian Govt had ignored Tourism Marketing earlier, saying that it is a pastime of the rich ! We have to change !

Indonesia as a whole gets 6 m tourists, but then India is bigger than Indonesia !

One of the most beautiful sights in the world !

The constellation of Delta Leonis is known as Pubba or Pooram, one of the 27 constellations which tenant the Ecliptic. There are more than one million temples in Kerala. Several temple festivals occur on the Lunar Asterism of their inception.

The famous Trichur Pooram occurs on the Pubba day of  Mesha or Delta Leonis in the sidereal month of Aries. More than 500,000 people witness this Festival of all Festivals. It is of 36 hours durations and it is one of the most beautiful sights in the world, according to UNESCO.

More than 50 caparisoned elephants pass through the center of Trichur Town , the Lord Shiva Temple.

Earlier the Pooram was at Arattupuzha and it so happened that the Chief of Peruvanam Gramam denied entry to the temples of Trichur. This enraged the Naduvazhis of Trichur and the then ruler, Shaktan Tampuran, integrated all the ten temples  around the central Lord Shiva Temple, Vadakkunnathan ( situated at a hillock )   and created this Grand Pooram. Tampuran created two Groups, the Eastern and the Western. The Eastern group was called as Paramekkavu, consisting in addition to Paramekkavu temple, Karamukku, Chembukavu, Choorakottukavu and Panamukkamppilly. The Western group was Thiruvambady consisting of Kanimangalam, Laloor, Ayyanthole, Nethilakkavu and the Thiruvambady temple.

This Pooram is centered around the Lord Shiva temple at the Center, as all the ten deities  pay obeisance to the Shiva, the central  presiding deity.  Shaktan Tampuran chalked out the program and the main events of this Glorious Festival.

In Kudamattom, that is changing of colored umbrellas this year, techonology was used. LED umbrellas were used and it was a glorious sight at seven pm. 15 caparisoned elephants of the Eastern Group faced the 15 elephants of the Western Group.

A heady mixture of pomp and pageantry, Trichur Pooram is arguably the most popular festival in India. More than 50 elephants and lakhs of people gather around the central Thekkinkattu Maidan. A spectacular pageant of 30 caparisoned elephants and Kudamattom, a swift changing of the colored parasols mark the event. The Chamravattom Regulator Bridge !

Today the Chamravattom Regulator Bridge will be dedicated to the nation. It is a 148 cr project. It will block the waters from Bharatapuzha from flowing into the sea. 13 kms long and 869 hectares will be directly benefited. The transporters save 30 kms. We need more infra projects like these, as Agri India do not have sufficient water ! Water scarcity has been reported in Cherpu, where women stand in queue for hours to get a bucket of water ! It will save 15 mm cubics of water in the first phase and 25 mm cubics in the second phase.

The Temple on the banks of Nila, at Chamravattom. Nearly 10000 hectares can be irrigated by the Regulator Bridge. Inauguration by the CM at 0400 PM.

The great mathematical genius, Aryabhata was born on the banks of Nila. Another Jain Siddha practised the 64 liberal arts at this place. Astronomy, Astrology, Music etc was practised on the banks of this river. This river is the Ganges of the Keralites. It is said that Kerala culture came from Nila !

For the passengers travelling from Ekm to Calicut, there is a gain of 40 kms. Previously the road was 225 kms and now travel is reduced to 185 kms. 20 rupees gain monetarily.

Ten multi crore Tourism projects have been planned on the banks of the Nila. This will be a boon not only to this area, but to entire Kerala !
